Helping everyone better understand the complex systems of health and science
Bruce Y. Lee, MD, MBA is a writer, journalist, professor, systems modeler, computational and digital health expert, and entrepreneur, not always in that order.
He has over two decades experience in industry and academia developing mathematical and computational models to assist a wide range of decision makers in health and public health. Currently, he is a Professor of Health Policy and Management at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy where he is Executive Director of the Center for Advanced Technology and Communication in Health (CATCH) and PHICOR (Public Health Computational and Operations Research). Dr. Lee is also founder and CEO of Symsilico.
Dr. Lee has written extensively for the general media. He is a Senior Contributor for Forbes, covering a wide range of health-related topics. His writing has also appeared in many media outlets including Time, The Guardian, and MIT Technology Review. His Twitter handle is @bruce_y_lee
Bruce is a writer and journalist who has written extensively for the general media. He's a Senior Contributor for Forbes covering everything health. He also has a blog, "A Funny Bone to Pick" for Psychology Today. In addition, his writing has appeared in a wide range of other media outlets including Time, The Guardian, the MIT Technology Review, and the HuffPost.
Bruce has given numerous talks, including keynote speeches, across six of the seven continents (with the exception of Antarctica) on a wide range of topics in health, public health, digital and computational health, and systems modeling.
Bruce’s work and expertise have appeared in leading media outlets such as The New York Times, ABC, BBC, Bloomberg News, CBS News, Good Morning America, National Geographic, National Public Radio (NPR), CNBC, NBC, Reuters, Tamron Hall Show, U.S. News and World Report and USA Today.
For over two decades, Bruce and his team have been developing and using digital and computational methods to better understand the complex systems that affect and are affected by health. Dr. Lee has authored over 255 scientific publications (including over 105 first author and over 100 last author), most of which have been original research, and nearly all of which have focused of systems science and computer/AI methods.
Health and healthcare are complex. Whether you are a patient, healthcare professional, product developer, business leader, or policymaker, unaided, it can be difficult to understand the impact of different decisions you make. Computational approaches and technology can help as they have transformed decision making in other fields such as meteorology and air traffic control. Bruce and his team’s goal is to do the same in health and healthcare.
